We have replaced all normal tubelights in common areas with LEDs. It results into significant power savings for us.

    • Excellent article. Most of us suffer from ‘INERTIA’ that makes us averse to any change. The comfort of ‘STATUS QUO’ is another deterrant to change. Articles like this one will serve to break the resistance and help acept a proven and better alternative.

Initial cost of LED puts off some. Some more facts on the overall economy in long-term (economic evaluation) would be great!

Just as few of the members asked, would like to know whether it can be used for lighting our interiors and also how much it would cost??

  11. Rajiv Khattar says:

    Dear All
Thanks for the prompt response from Mr Senthil Kumar and Hynetics, however both have not given the exact cost estimates to any one of us, the most common queries today are
1 Cost of the LED lamps
2 Can it fit the existing fittings, : I have gained knowledge is that a normal bulb fitting will accept that however the fittings which have the bulbs with threads are not accepting the same
    3 Availability
4 Light factor ,it is omni directional like CFL or a traditonal bulb or unidirectional
I am willing to pay for on or two LED lamps to learn more about that can I get some sample
Will request if a price estimation is given then it will address lot of queries

  18. AKB says:

Points 3 and 4 under ‘Timer for Lighting’ are misleading. Dusk till Dawn lighting can never be more efficient than Movement Sensor lighting.

In a Dusk to Dawn application, the lights remain ‘ON’ all night long from Sunset till Sunrise(i.e. approximately 12hours) whereas in a ‘Movement Sensor Lighting’ the lights turn ‘ON’ only when there is any people movement.

We have one such system installed in our society in Hiranandani Estate and it has proved its efficiency and worthiness. We have detailed reports of the systems efficiency and the savings from it. The system was installed by a company by the name of Dynosolair that all deals in LED & other forms of efficient lighting as well.

1 The Lumnes shld not be criteria immdtly
2 LED are more of spot light type, they do not give all round light like in the case of a Bulb, CFL etc, we Indians are used to omni distribution of light in the house,
I am still awaiting for an economical solution for such a case and need to have fittings for all type of holder esp E 27 E14 with omni distribution of the light
We will have to wait for such products, even Arka Technologies do not have such products
Can we have some solution on this

Is there anyone who supplies LED lights and bulbs in Goregaon (Mumbai) area? I wish to install LED lights for my home.

  26. Rajiv Khattar says:

    Dear All
I have tried atleast seven types of LED lights and still I am struggling with the spot light issue, we need to have omni directional lights and someone needs to give demo, it is diffcult and expensive for us to keep on trying, let someone physically give demo first and show the ranges I was in touch with Mr Daruwala also who posted a response on March 07, 2010 but then did not went futher then that, the issue is that the companies which deal with LED lights are not having a disribution set up and thus the products are limites and cannot be experienced,

Gardeners who are used to traditional grow lamps will find gardening with LED lights a bit different. Here are some things to keep in mind:
–Don’t overwater. The heat from traditional lamps causes water evaporation, requiring indoor gardeners to give their flora extra water. Because LED lights produce significantly less heat, plants require less water.
–Provide some heat. On the flip side, the lack of heat generation from LED lights can cause plants to grow more slowly. Plants should be kept in a room that’s 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit, and a small 60-Watt light bulb may be needed for plants that benefit from higher temperatures, such as tomatoes.
