Badlapur, Mumbai

Badlapur is one of the developing suburbs near the Mumbai city. It lies under the district of Thane. The locality is developing at a fast pace with people working in Mumbai moving to Badlapur for a living.

The place was so named because the travelers used to take the Konkan- Gujarat route via Surat. Badla means change in Marathi and pur was added as suffix to give it a new meaning of town or village. This name was kept because warriors and fighters of that time like Shivaji Maharaj used to change their horses in this place for the steep difficult climb near Konkan area.

The localities that come under this region are Old Badlapur Village, Kulgaon, Manjarli, Belavali, Katrap and many small villages around. It is divided into two parts- east and west. Some of the schools in vicinity are Presidency English School, Adarsh Vidya Mandir, New English High School, Leelavati Awhad Institute of Technology and Management Studies, etc.

As per 2001 population census, it has a total population of 97,917 where males constituted to 53% and females to 47%.

It is at a distance of 68 km from the Central Mumbai railway station, 34 km from Thane and 10 km from Ulhasnagar. Nearest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 70 km.

As it one of the fastest growing localities, many people are buzzing in here rather than Mumbai. The reason being affordable real estate rates, landscaped location, pleasant weather and silent neighbourhood.
