Bhandup is one of the localities in Mumbai which also has a railway station of the same name on the central railway route of Mumbai suburban railway.
The name of the locality is assumed to be taken from Lord Shiva's another name Bhandupeshwar. The temple called Bhandupeshwar Mahadev Mandir is one of the oldest here and is situated at Station Road in Bhandup West. The temple has many other idols of gods and goddesses also.
Bhandup is divided into east and west. Bhandup west is linked to other parts via Agra Road or L.B.S. Marg and Bhandup east is surrounded by Eastern Express highway.
There are many industries in and around Bhandup west. Crompton Greaves was the first one to be set in 1937. All the industries that are present in Bhandup are in its western part. Some of the industries include CEAT Tyres, Asian Paints Limited, BASF, The Indian Smelting And Refining Company Limited etc. Some of the schools in vicinity are Adarsha Vidyalaya, Bhandup Night High School, Bright High School, Cosmos High School, Guru Nanak English High School, etc.
