Domlur, Bangalore

Domlur, previously known as Bhagat Singh Nagar is a small locality situated in East Bangalore. It is still a mystery how the name Domlur was coined for the place. Some people say it is named after a flower called 'Tombalur' used to worship Lord Shiva. The theory is also fully supported by the inscriptions found in Chokkanathaswamy temple in the locality constructed by Cholas. Another saying states that the name Domlur has been derived from a Telugu word called "Domulu" means mosquito. This can be proved by the significant number of Telugu population in the area.

The region is one of the prime locations in the city with many multinational and IT companies adjoining it. Some of the organizations nearby are Dell, IBM, Microsoft, etc. The major landmark in Domlur is Airport road flyover on Old Airport road which was constructed by Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation. The flyover, after much of delay was opened to general public on July 12, 2006. The opening of the flyover brought a relief for professionals heading to Madras Regiment and HAL.

Domlur as is located at the heart of the city is surrounded by some of the prime locations. These localities are Old Airport Road, Indiranagar, Marathahalli, Koramangala, Ejipura, etc. It is just 10 minutes from MG Road and Koramangala and 5 minutes from Indiranagar. There are many military establishments in Bangalore and some of them have their divisions in this part of the city. They are Indian Air Force, EME Workshop, and ASC. There is also a military Command Hospital nearby.

It is 9 km from Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic Station) & Bangalore City Railway Station and 40 km from Bangalore international Airport. Bus stops near to this area are Domlur Bridge, Doopanahalli, Indiranagar, ISRO Housing Colony, Command Hospital, etc.
