The Indian Premiere League (IPL) comprises of the following 8 teams. To know more about these teams, please click any of the below links :
Rajasthan Royals
One look at the Rajasthan Royals team and one would have thought that this is the weakest team in the first season of the Indian Premier League. However, all that changed after the first auction, when many of the players that got signed up, made absolute sense for this format of the game. Incidentally, this is a team which owned by the Emerging Media Group, which bought the rights for this team for $67 million. This is also a very unique team, in that, it is the only one in the Indian Premier League to have a foreign captain and coach, and both, its captain and its coach are Shane Warne. more>>

Mumbai Indians
Reliance Industries’ Mukesh Ambani's bid of $111.9 million to own the team rights of the Mumbai team - later christened as the Mumbai Indians - made it the costliest team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Add to that, stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya and Shaun Pollock to go along with the eccentric but youthful, Harbhajan Singh, and Robin Uthappa, we have a team that is a fine blend of experience and fresh legs. more>>

Kolkota Knight Riders
The biggest USP for the Kolkata Knight Riders side is the owner himself. Shah rukh Khan has the capability in him, to pull the crowds to the ground by the virtue of his persona, something that can be easily gauged by the fact that the Kolkata Knight Riders’ team was the first one to release their website – and it is a jazzy one at that – and also their team song. Needless to say, Shah rukh has featured in the video himself. more>>

Kings XI Punjab
Apart from the Kolkata Knight Riders, this is the other team that has the Bollywood glam quotient attached with it, in the form of Preity Zinta, one of the co-owners of the team. Apart from that, the Kings XI Punjab team is owned by Ness Wadia, Karan Paul and Dabur-man Mohit Burman. The four of them bought the team rights from IPL for $76 million and the rest of the players for more than $5 million. Apart from the above four, the CEO of the team is one Mr. Neil Maxwell, and the team would be coached by Tom Moody. Yuvraj Singh is the icon player for the Kings XI Punjab, and also will captain the side. more>>

Delhi Daredevils
If there was ever an Indian Premier League side that is very reminiscent of their corresponding Ranji team, it has to be the Delhi DareDevils squad. With seven cricketers from the Delhi Ranji team playing for this squad it is a great start for the marketing and promotion team of the squad. And that is because the cricket watching audience would then be able to relate to ‘their’ side, like no other club. The side is led by none other than Virender Sehwag, who is also the icon player and has helped him earn almost an eight and a half lakh dollars. The next costliest player for the Delhi team is Gautam Gambhir at $7.25 lakhs. more>>

Deccan Charges
The verdict for the Deccan Chargers was unanimous before the tournament; they were quite simply the pre-tournament favourites. And why not? With a reasonably strong bowling line up, and a overtly powerful batting one, it would be hard to imagine Deccan Chargers not make it to the semi-finals, if not go all the way to be crowned as the first ever winners of the Indian Premier League. more>>

Chennai Super Kings
The costliest cricketer of the first season of the IPL and the captain of the Indian ODI and T20 teams, had been signed up by Chennai Super Kings, so was a cricketer with the highest Test and ODI average in contemporary cricket. If you add a Mathew Hayden, Stephen Fleming, Jacob Oram and an Albie Morkel to that list, we would be looking at a very strong team, with all their bases covered. The Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings is a team to look out for in this first season of the IPL, and one would not be surprised if they go all the way in this season. more>>

Bangalore Royal Challengers
When I first heard that Vijay Mallya has spent almost $112 million to own the Bangalore Royal Challengers team, I thought, here is a chance for Mallaya to redeem himself into picking up a better team than what he did for Force India. What followed thereafter was something that was very surprising, the team that Rahul Dravid – the icon player for Bangalore RCs – chose the team he did. It was a team full of class players, but most of them were batsmen who loved to play in the proverbial V, without too much propensity to loft the ball into the stands. This may haunt the team in the later stages, especially when the other teams find their feet and began to attack these batsmen more. more>>
