Malleshwaram is one of the oldest localities situated in north western part of Bangalore. Malleshwaram or Malleshwara derived its name from the famous Kaadu Malleswara temple in the area. It is home to many great personalities of the country like Nobel laureate- C.V. Raman, Badminton world champion- Prakash Padukone and his daughter the film actress Deepika Padukone and many more.
The place holds many historical importance as it was originally developed in 1898 as a suburb and caused many residents of the city to shift to different places. Malleshwaram was found by H. V. Nanjundaiah, the founder and first Vice Chancellor of the Mysore University and acting Dewan of Mysore. Also, the place has many Hindu temples in close vicinity. Many residents have confirmed Malleshwaram as capital of Bangalore city.
The adjacent areas to Malleshwaram include Palace Guttahalli, Rajajinagar, Vijaynagar, Majestic, Jalahalli, etc. Some of the nearby schools are Euro Kids, Cluny Convent High School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, BP Indian Public School, Malleswaram Shishuvihar, etc. Hospitals present in close proximity are Manipal Northside Hospital, Leela Hospital, Jupiter Hospital, etc.
The total population of the ward is 36321 with male population of 18994 and female population of 17327. It is spread across a total area of 1.81 sq km. The localities that come under the ward are Malleswaram (P), Yashwanthpura, Subedharpalya, Nanjappa Reddy colony.
It is well connected to all major localities by the BMTC city buses. The interconnecting roads which link it to rest of the city are Sampige Road and Margosa Road. It is at a distance of 5 km from City Railway Station and 16 km from Bangalore International Airport.
