New Panvel, Mumbai

Panvel is one of the suburbs under Raigad district near to Mumbai city. It also lies at the entrance of Konkan belt. It is a link between Navi Mumbai and the border of Thane district. It is situated at a distance of 21 km from Mumbai on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway.

The locality is about 300 years old and was one of the major routes for trade purpose during the era of Mughal rule and then the Marathas, the British and the Portuguese used the route. Panvel Municipal Council was the oldest developed in the year 1852.

New Panvel is the locality under Panvel and has all the major recent developments in it. The development authority of New Panvel is CIDCO. Panvel Municipal Council has no development rights for this area. Developments for New Panvel was initiated in early 1970s. It was done to provide residences for employees of nearby industries in Taloja, Rasayani, Patalganga & Pen.

New Panvel is link between Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway (NH-4) and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and is located on the eastern side. National Highway 17 originates from Panvel.

The total area of New Panvel is 515 hectares and is divided into New Panvel East and New Panvel West which is also called as Khanda Colony. Eastern part has 19 sectors and west has 23 sectors.

The proposed Navi Mumbai International airport is in close vicinity and also the upcoming Reliance SEZ. It is at a distance of 50 km from Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus and 50 km from Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
