About Old Mahabalipuram Road
Old Mahabalipuram Road, currently known as Rajiv Gandhi Salai is a prime road connecting two main junctions in Chennai. It was also known as OMR or IT/ITES Corridor because of many IT companies in the stretch. The road is a link between Madhya Kailash temple in Adyar at one side with East Coast Road via Mahabalipuram.
On the road, an IT corridor project was to come up in 2005 but it became operational in 2008. Government of Tamil Nadu took the initiative of developing the corridor in IT Expressway Ltd has its investment in the project. The phase I of the corridor is around 20 km long which stretches from Tidel Park in Tharamani to SIPCOT IT Park in Siruseri.
There are two toll gates on the OMR and three on the roads leading towards it. Two toll gates are Entrance toll plaza at Seevaram and Exit plaza at Egattur. Three gates outside are Satellite toll plaza on 200 feet Thoraipakkam-Pallavaram radial road, Satellite toll plaza on Sholinganallur-Medavakkam link road and Satellite toll plaza on Sholinganallut-ECR link road.
Some of the companies in the IT corridor are Satyam Computer Services, HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services, Accenture India, TECCI Park, Wipro Technologies, Cognizant Technology Solutions,Scope International, Photon Infotech, Polaris Software Lab and Infosys. Few educational institutes in the neighbourhood are National Institute of Fashion Technology, SSN College of Engineering, St. Joseph's College of Engineering, Sathyabhama Deemed University, Hindustan College of Engineering, Jeppiaar Engineering College and many more.
It is at a distance of 30 km from both Chennai Central railway station and Chennai International Airport.
Land prices in this part of the city is rising as many IT industries are in close vicinity. Many housing projects have come up in last one year and demand in real estate sector is catching an upward trend. In the last two years, property prices have shoot up by 40 to 50 percent.
