The Municipal Corporation of Delhi
is among the largest municipal bodies in the world providing civic
services to more than estimated population of 13.78 million citizens in
the capital city. It is one of three municipal corporations in the
National Capital Territory of Delhi, the others being New Delhi
Municipal Council, and Delhi Cantonment Board. The corporation is
involved in community development programs, which include constructing
health centers, schools and other services of public importance in the
urban as well as rural areas.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) governs 9 Districts of Delhi. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)
came into existence on the 7th of April, 1958 under and Act of
Parliament. The 1993 amendment of the Act brought about fundamental
changes in composition, functions, governance and administration of the
corporation. "It has also the unique distinction of providing civic
services to rural and urban villages, Resettlement Colonies, regularized
unauthorized colonies, JJ Squatter Settlements, slum 'basties, private
'katras' etc."
The entire MCD area is divided into 12 Zones and their offices are
located in every specific zone. The 12 zones namely City, Central,
South, Karol Bagh, Sadar Paharganj, West, Civil Lines, Shahdara (s),
Shahdara(N), Rohini, Narela and Najafgarh.
With improvement in the services in every sector and resource
management, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has not only
successfully accomplished but has also undertaken many challenging
projects as well. The national capital city enjoys a special status
