Here's a healthy way of making fries using just a teaspoon of oil instead of deep frying them in oil. This helps you to savour the taste of french fries without adding unnecessary inches to your waist.

Preparation Time: 15 mins

Cooking Time: 20 mins

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

• 2 large potatoes, peeled and cut into fingers
• 1 teaspoon chilli powder
• 1 teaspoon roasted cumin (jeera) powder
• 1 teaspoon oil
• salt to taste

Method:

• Parboil the potatoes in salted water for 5 to 7 minutes.
• Drain and keep aside.
• Mix the chilli powder, cumin powder and salt in a bowl, sprinkle over the potato fingers and coat them well.
• Heat the oil in a broad non-stick pan and add the potatoes.
• Cook them over a slow flame till they are crisp and browned on all sides turning them carefully with a fork.
• Serve hot.

Bheemeswari is situated on the banks of the Cauvery, just south of Bangalore in eastern Mandya District. The turnoff from NH209 onto the village road at Halagur, just a short way out of Bangalore, transports you to meandering roads down green mountainsides. The only traffic stops will be the rare herd of spotted deer sailing across the road. This is only a taste of what awaits you at the camps in Bheemeshwari.

Location:
100 km South from Bangalore. Drive from Bangalore on NH 209 to Halagur Village via Kankapura and Sathanur. From Hallagur Village, carry on to Bheemeshwari via Muthati on the village road.

Activities:
There are several great fishing camps at Bheemeshwari where you can try your luck. The Cauvery here is full of crocodiles, otters and turtles (swimming is prohibited here). The lush forest surrounding Bheemeshwari shelters hordes of wildlife - herds of elephants, deer, wild boars, monkeys, jackals, and even leopards! Some wild animals come close to the campsites at Bheemeshwari and you can go for guided Nature treks into the surrounding countryside.
