Like any other living being, pests tend to move to a place where they can survive and their needs are met. Rather than detecting and handling the pest problem every time it arises, the better strategy is the prevention. Following are 10 tips to avoid Pest in the Kitchen.

- Clean your apartment at regular interval and avoid storing newspapers, paper bags, and boxes for long periods.
- Wash dishes, tables, kitchen counters and stove tops every day, preferably after every meal.
- Fill in cracks and seal openings around pipes, in the walls and inside the cupboards.
- Swab the floor of the kitchen preferably twice, once in the morning and once at night after the last meal has been wrapped up.
- Do not stack used utensils in the sink overnight. If possible clean utensils and sink in the night itself.
- Wash your home with water and soap once a week to rid it of all unpleasant creepy crawlies.
- Do not leave any food material, including garbage in the open. Once mice and other pests are starved, they will definitely leave the house in search of their food.
- Store flour, sugar, cereals and crackers in tightly covered plastic or metal containers.
- Soak a cotton ball in the oil of peppermint and place it at a suspected entryway. Mice cannot stand the scent of peppermint or peppermint oil.
- It is natural trend of every living being that they move to place where they can survive and their needs are met. Keep your apartment clean and tidy to prevent bugs entering inside.
