A seasonal maintenance of your home or apartment helps you in protecting the investment you have made on your home. Summer is the best time for maintenance of properties in India due to longer days. Your seasonal maintenance can prevent serious or bigger repairs and you can get good deal on your property whenever you try selling them. Whether the maintenance is for indoor or outdoor, set a schedule for every maintenance activity. This would help you to a greater extent while maintaining a safer home before it can turn into a hazardous setting. Here are a few things which you need to focus on during summer.
Air conditioner maintenance: Since the use of air conditioner increases during summer, it is recommended to start the preparations for the summer maintenance during spring time. If delayed, you might have to wait and make an appointment of the air conditioner repairman during summer. Keep a regular check on the functioning of your air conditioner.
Ceiling fan maintenance: These are one of the most used electrical appliances during summer season. Ceiling fans can result in an efficient usage of the energy by circulating cool air. Keep the blades clean and replace them if needed or tighten the screws. Also to prevent the leakage of the air from inside your home, seal and strip your doors and windows. Since the air conditioner and the fans are used in order to get cool air, make sure you do not let the air escape outside your home.
Roof and wall maintenance: As these parts of a home are the most important ones, you should be particular about them. If you spot any cracks or damage in the roof or the walls, take an immediate action to repair them at the earliest. Always remember to keep the roof clean away from dry leaves, branches and other debris.
Walkways and floor maintenance: Make sure that you regularly inspect the floors, driveways and walkways for cracks and holes. Repair them immediately to avoid trouble. Do not let the weeds or other plants grow in between the cracks. Eliminate the weeds in a more careful way to avoid their re- growth.
Window maintenance: The warm weather is apt for you to clean your window sills and the sides. Make use of a garden hose to clean your windows by scrubbing. Avoid using a pressure washer as this can damage the exteriors of your home. Once the window sills and sides are washed, paint them with fresh coatings and replace the vinyl or aluminium sidings if required.
Garage and attic maintenance: Avoid storing dangerous and contaminated materials and solvents like paints, solvents, inflammable materials and others in rooms. As the temperature rises, it can cause a flame indoors. Keep a regular check on the leaks like grease and other chemicals. Store all the tools in a selected place away from the reach of children.
Polish and oil the hinges and doors: Make sure you oil and polish the doors, windows and their hinges regularly to avoid jamming.
Well maintained landscape: Another important part of the summer maintenance is trimming and making your lawn a presentable one. The garden beds in your home should be weeded and mulched to give a hospitable appearance. Various summer flowering plants can be planted in order to make your garden look beautiful. Keep a regular check on all the infected plants and dispose them away to prevent infection. Natural grass growth is always advisable and keeping the grass longer will avoid instant drying up of water. Make use of water efficiently by watering the plants in the morning and also keep a check on the water conservation restrictions by the municipality.
Check for water leakage: Water leakage in your home can cause you a lot of damage both indoors as well as outdoors. Check for the water pipes and taps all over your home and replace them if you spot a damaged one. This will help you save water as well as protect your building structure.
Pest control: This is one of the most important maintenance aspects during summer. Various insects like termites and others can cause damage to your furniture. In order to avoid this, check for wood flakes, mud mounds or tunnels in and around the wood. If you spot any of these, take an immediate action by contacting the professional pest control services.
Elevator maintenance: If you own an elevator at your apartment or buildings, make sure you inform the caretaker to maintain and check for the normal functioning of the elevator and oil it regularly.
Maintaining heating and cooling equipment: Each home contains various heating and cooling equipments. These gadgets are used in our everyday life and hence should be used wisely and occasionally. Over usage of them will not only cause health hazards but also will lead to an improper functioning of all the equipments. Check them regularly and replace them if needed.
