Tips to take care of your antiques
For expensive antiques:
If you are investing in expensive antiques, have them at home, you should ensure that you take care of them. Be careful and particular while changing their frames and cleaning them. Also keep a check on the canvas.
Cleaning:
Although cleaning might take some time, one has to ensure that they clean the artwork regularly with a dry muslin cloth. Doing this will keep them intact and will maintain the lustre. Avoid using a wet cloth frequently while cleaning the pieces.
Positioning:
It is advisable that your antique smithereens should be placed in a safe corner or in the centre of the room, so that they gain attention as well as are safe. In case you have hung them on a wall, you should ensure that you remove them from the wall and clean them regularly.
Away from harsh climate:
It is very important that you keep the paintings and other antique objects away from the sun rays, fire place or any other humid place. Follow the same with the cooler weather and keep them away from moisture, water and mist.
Dusting:
You can use a soft brush or a soft cloth. The best is to use a velvet cloth to clean the dust away but not rub the painting with a velvet cloth if there are any signs of flaking.
Storing:
If you have to store your paintings and antique pieces in a safe place, it is very important that you consider the climatic condition of that place. Avoid placing them in attics and basements which contain excessive dry/damp areas and lack good air circulation. Ensure that you always use soft pads underneath and above them while storing.
