Decorate with flower this festive season
Nothing else ever matches a flower when it comes to bring cheer and joy to people. A flower is always the symbol of joy – unadulterated and transcending. ‘Flowers are the sweetest thing God ever made, and forgot to put a soul into”, remarked Henry Beecher. Whether or not it may be true, but flowers are definitely the soul of any festivity anywhere in the world.
This is the time of the year when we celebrate ‘Ugadi’ in Karnataka, the festival to welcome a new year and the joyous spirit of spring into your life. It is the time to welcome freshness and celebrate the cheerful countenance of the outside world. Whether you like roses or hydrangeas or lilacs or lilies or alliums; when placed beautifully it lends immeasurable beauty to your home.
Let’s look at various ways you can plan various floral decorations for different spaces in your house.
Centerpiece with flowers
Arrange a large container like a fancy shell or a decorative jar. Put long stemmed flowers in it. Combine the flower heads if you put large flowers like tiger lilies and small ones like Baby’s Breath together. Keep the container on top of the centre table in the living room. If you could get some orchids to put inside a large vase, then it could create magic. Similar effect can be created by a bouquet of white lilies placed in a sea blue vase, when kept beside a spotless white table lamp on top of a table. The container with flowers acts as a beautiful focal point and will catch the eye of any guest who comes over to your home during the festival.
Flowers on a row
Flowers arranged in a simple way can do wonders for home decor. Keep flowers with beautiful stalks in a clean line on a row. Asiatic lilies or daisies can be put in small cups and can be placed on window ledges or on top of corner tables. They can even be placed on mantelpieces in the living room or study room. Match the colour of flowers with the room decor and colour of interior walls.
Roses all the way
Roses are probably the most sensuous and beautiful flowers ever to have captivated mankind. Roses bring hope, beauty, tranquility to us. Roses can be put in bud vases and can be placed in a circular design on top of a dining table. Place the floral decoration on a mahogany table and match the setting with decorative wall papers to complete the picture.
One bunch at a time
With a beautiful big bunch of bright coloured flowers you have the simplest yet elegant looking floral decor. Choose an attractive bunch of tall stemmed flowers and stick the bunch into a vase. Either you can go for a same coloured bunch of flowers or you can mix up different coloured flowers. You can have a cluster of red or yellow roses with white lilies and purple lilacs and put Baby’s Breaths sprouting from the edges of the bunch. The vase textured with floral patterns with a beautiful bunch in it can be displayed in dining room or living room.
Formal decorations
Flowers can adorn the corners of formal spaces like living room. Stick single stemmed flowers like hydrangea or lily or rose in clear glass container and put it on a table in front of the window in the living room. You can arrange three glass containers of different shapes and put them in front of a light source in the living room. Place some glass pebbles on a bowl to the side of the flowers and you could have a pleasant spot in your living room.
