Delhi-NCR to get an array of road projects
In order to cut down the travel time of commuters and to provide better connectivity in Delhi-NCR, the central and the state governments are coming up with an array of projects including elevated roads and flyovers.
Flyover at Hero Honda Chowk, Gurgaon
-A six-lane flyover has been planned to be built at the Hero Honda Chowk along the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-8), Gurgaon.
-The project cost is estimated to be around Rs 100 crore which is given by the Central government.
-Project completion time is estimated to be 15 months from this month.
Elevated road at Hero Honda Chowk
-An eight-lane elevated corridor has been proposed to be developed at the Hero Honda Chowk in order to decongest the traffic on the Delhi-Jaipur highway.
-The project cost is estimated to be about Rs 900 crore and the Road Ministry has proposed a 50:50 joint venture between the Centre and Haryana.
-The proposed stretch will cut the travel time between Delhi and Jaipur by at least one hour.
New highway from Jhajjar to Dwarka
-A highway from Jhajjar in Haryana to Dwarka in Delhi via Dhansa border on Najafgarh drain has been approved by the centre.
-The 25.1 km four-lane road will be an alternative route for IGI Airport to those coming from Badli, Jhajjar and Najafgarh.
-The road is expected to decongest the heavy traffic on National Highway 8.
-Approximate project cost is estimated to be Rs 222 crore.
-The proposed road will give easy accessibility to the AIIMS campus being set up in Jhajjar district. It will be a direct link to proposed KMP Expressway.
Flyover at Bahalgarh Chowk
-The Centre has approved a new flyover at Bahalgarh Chowk on GT Road has been approved to ease the traffic on National Highway 1 on Delhi-Panipat-Ambala route.
-The project will be awarded to a contractor before December 31, 2013.
Widening of a bridge near village Rasoi
-The widening of a bridge near village Rasoi on the Delhi-Panipat-Haryana Highway has been approved.
-The project will be started before the year end.
Elevated Road in Noida between Vishwa Bharti School to Shopprix Mall
-A 5.8 km-long elevated road will be built from Vishwa Bharti School in Sector 28 to Shopprix Mall in Sector 61, which is said to be the first elevated road in Noida.
-The road will have a cloverleaf at the City Center crossroads in Sector 32.
-The project will ensure smooth traffic in the Sectors including 14, 14A, 15, 15A, 17, 18, 38A, 94 and 95, besides Kalindi Kunj.
-The elevated road will run above and parallel to the Shahdara drain.
-The project has been approved by the Noida Authority.
Elevated Road from DSC Road to Bhangel flyover
-An elevated road is proposed to be developed near the Dadri-Surajpur-Chalera (DSC) road till a flyover near Bhangel.
-The proposed six-lane road will be 5.5 km-long.
-The Noida Authority has given its nod to the project.
Four underpasses in Noida
-Apart from the two elevated corridors, four underpasses to make roads signal-free.
-Once designs get approved from IIT-Delhi, tenders for the projects will be finalised.
-Underpasses will be built on Master Plan Road-III at City Center crossing, Sectors 94, 95 crossing, Sectors 71, 72, 51, 52 junction and on NH 24-Model Town crossing.
New flyover in Noida
-A flyover has been proposed at the junction of Sectors 71, 72, 51 and 52.
-The flyover is expected to ease the traffic flow in that junction.
Widening of three bridges in Noida
-The widening of three bridges including Sectors 16A-18 bridge, Sectors 14-14A bridge and the bridge near Okhla Barrage is in the pipeline.
-Delhi government will fix the time frame for the project following which tenders will be finalised.
-The widening of these bridges will provide a major relief to the commuters travelling between Delhi and Noida, from East Delhi and through the DND Flyway.
-During construction, the “segment technique” will be used to cause minimal traffic disruption.
According to sources, it has been estimated that around 20 highway projects involving an investment of about Rs 27,000 crore have currently been stalled, mostly on the basis of pending approvals.
The maintenance of the national highways passing through Haryana is being given more importance besides the construction of new roads and their timely completion. In this regard, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has increased the budget allocation from Rs 44 crore to Rs 110 crore for maintenance and upkeep of the national highways in Haryana.
Three new underpasses coming up in Delhi, Gurgaon
Three underpasses have been planned at the junctions of IFFCO Chowk, Signature Tower crossing and Rajiv Chowk.
The plans for the underpasses will soon be submitted to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) while the project cost has yet to be finalised. The NHAI will bear half of the project cost while the MCG and HUDA will equally share the remaining 50 percent cost.
The NHAI officials wanted these works to be started soon in order to ease traffic at these junctions. Often, the congestion at these points spills over to the main carriageway affecting the traffic flow on the expressway.
