DMIC Phase I: All you need to know
Delhi – Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is India’s most ambitious infrastructure programme planned. The project aims at developing new industrial cities as “Smart Cities” and converging next generation technologies across infrastructure sectors. This corridor has been planned to create a strong economic base which competes internationally in infrastructure and boost the local commerce. This would pull foreign investments and thus attain sustainable development.
The first phase of the project focus on five major pointers :

Developing new industrial cities.

Ensuring infrastructural linkages such as pioneer plants.

Assuring uninterrupted water supply.

Expanding high capacity logistics transportation facilities.

Envisaging skill development programmes to increase employment opportunities for locals.
Taking the six nodes of development in DMIC region, the prime focus of phase 1 is on the tasks as shown below:

The government of India plans to start the process of construction of five smart cities by the end of current financial year.
CEO & MD, DMICDC, Mr Tallen Kumar is expecting the completion of phase I by the year 2019, which includes the construction of two of the eight smart industrial cities planned along the length of the corridor. These cities are Dholera Special Investment Region, in Gujarat and Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Park in Maharashtra. As the environmental clearances for Dholera were in place, the bidding process for both the cities would start late this year in December and Dholera SIR is envisaged to be six times the size of Shanghai and two times the size of Delhi.
Apart from these two cities, DMIC Development Corporation plans for moving into other five of the smart cities in this belt with the availability of land through the proactive governments there leaving the ones falling in Greater Noida, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.
The corporation is also going to start contracting trunk infrastructure developments at Ahmedabad-Dholera region in Gujarat, Shendra-Bidkin region in Maharashtra, Vikram Udyogpuri industrial township.
