Energy Saving LED – A case study on LED BULBS
Energy Saving LED Bulbs to Replace Palace Lights
Mysore, Oct. 12 (KMC)-The Mysore Palace Board, as its first step towards energy conservation, has commenced the work of replacing the light fittings outside the Palace premises (along the walk ways and at the gates) with eco-friendly LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights.
As part of the first phase of the work, 685 units of lights have been replaced with LED that emanate a golden hue, as desired by the Palace Board.
The contract has been awarded to a Mysorean named S. Nagaraj, Managing Director of Trishul Greenlights, Bangalore.
Nagaraj told Star of Mysore that the contract for Rs. 77 lakh included the replacement of more than 3,000 lighting units at the Palace premises, which will be taken up in five phases. “Each LED unit has been guaranteed with 50,000 working hours,” said Nagaraj and added, “A 30 watt unit costs Rs. 14,000 and 60 watt unit costs Rs. 28,000. A service and replacement guarantee period of five years has been given.”
Nagaraj said that LED lights, along with LED lights of other contractors who had submitted their tenders, had been tested by representatives from the Palace Board, engineers from NIE and technical experts before awarding the contract. They insisted on lights with a golden hue for the Palace’s exteriors.
“The main advantage of LED lights is energy conservation. A LED bulb produces more light output per wattage of electricity used. Though the Led bulbs are high powered, they consume less electricity,” Nagaraj said and added LED lights have an in-built voltage stabilising circuit which can withstand a voltage fluctuation of 90 to 270 volts. They are also recyclable , he said.
