Festive flavour: Ways to make your room warm and inviting
Commonfloor Resident Expert, Aditi says
Spend Time In It:
If it’s merely a place to lay your head and hang your coat then it will never mean anything more to you than a coat rack does. Saying no to things in the outside world can be hard, but sometimes it’s worth it for your home, peace and comfort in the long run.

Use Your Space:
Use your table, sprawl out on the floor, cook, bake, clean, paint a picture… do something that forces you to interact with the things in your home.

Accessorise:
It may seem like a simple idea, but the decorative elements you choose to jazz up your room with can really go a long way in creating a warm living space. Differing fabrics and textures can warm up a room, so keep that in mind when choosing furniture or upholstery. Add candles to accentuate the mood around your abode. Choose a brightly colored area rug to tie the room together and provide an additional layer of comfort. Adding abundant throw pillows and cushions to armchairs and sofas softens and adds warmth and makes the room feel more welcoming.

Music Matters:
It’s easy to think about music while we’re doing certain things. It’s a no-brainer to listen to music at the gym or during a morning commute. But kick out the jams at home, too! Some of the strongest memories you can make often involve music. Open the windows, add a breeze and choose your tunes to match or make your day.

Lighting:
An important way to make your apartment feel warm is to use both natural and artificial lighting elements to add coziness to a room. One simple solution is by placing a number of candles around the room, as candlelight tends to soften a room and some fragranced candles can add to the cozy atmosphere. If you have a fireplace in your apartment, it can serve as a central lighting element as well as a source of warmth in the colder months. Choose window treatments that will provide privacy but still allow for natural light to seep through, such as transparent curtains.
