Summer Craft Ideas for kids
It’s time for some summer fun and to experience an array of activities and adventures, as the holidays have arrives after toiling for your kid’s exams. One can explore a wide variety of activities ranging from indoors to outdoor creative activities. These activities not only help build your child’s personality but will help him to learn and explore his creative skills. Colouring pages/painting: this is one of the most sought and loved activities among children and parents. Most of the parents prefer their child to take up a colouring activity in a spare time so as to improve their creative skills, grasping skills, concentration skills, identifying colours and to relate things to their surroundings. Taking up colouring as a summer activity gives your child a vast scope to choose various desired drawings or patterns. Summer cooking: Although not every child delights cooking, but it is an interesting activity. Cooking can be taken up both with fire and without fire as per the safety measures for your child. To make it more interesting and fun, you can take your kids on a picnic and arrange the required commodities for them to bake a cake or cook something which they like. Letting your child handle the cooking procedure will also make him/her feel responsible and proud. Make sure you supervise your child every time they’re cooking. Also one has to make sure that the food is cooked in a hygienic place and kept clean before and after eating. Usually children tend to be messy and it is very important for a parent to supervise their child at such times.
Summer poems and songs: Children love to recite and sing songs and are quite creative when it comes to humming their own new tunes. This activity lets your child build his vocabulary and be creative by forming their songs and poems. Also there are various genres of songs and poems which can be played for your children during summer. Nursery rhymes like ‘Mary Mary quite contrary’, ‘if you’re happy and you know clap your hands’ and many more can be sung and taught to them.
Garden crafts: Various garden crafts like a watering can, a decorative painted pot, wind chime, sand art, sand sculpture and vegetable carving are few of the easiest crafts which your child can opt for. This activity helps your child to build their creative skills and sense of imagination. One can easily find all the raw materials in their home or garden to carve and design the crafts. A child can create his own summer flower bed and let his garden sprout with various fruits and vegetables. Parents can get their children garden kits and instruct them on how to go about it. Small fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, strawberries, chillies, parsley and many more can be grown in a shorter period. Gardening is an interesting activity which your child will enjoy and watch the fruits of his efforts reap.
Origami: This is one of the most popular crafts followed in schools, camps and families. It is an easiest method of creating various animals and objects just by folding papers. Most of the schools have the origami classes and teach the children on how to make various animals, fruits, objects and others out of colourful papers. This form of craft also makes the child contented when he/she sees their crafts pasted in their books or hung on the walls.
Wearable crafts: One can create their own jewellery and other accessories in a very little time. Materials like ribbons, beads, straws, wires, glass pieces and rubber bands can be used to make their own set of ear rings and necklace, paint their own shirts, friendship bracelets, hats, head bands, sun glasses, footwear and various other hair accessories.
Toys: Most children these days are too creative to create their own toys. Toys like trucks, Lorries, motorcycles a home, landscape or many others can be made out of waste materials and empty boxes. Also one can make soft toys stuffed with cotton or waste cloth strips. Other toys like juice box dolls, piggy bank, closets and others can be created out of shoe boxes. Fabric crafts: One can create their own patch work craft either for their room or as their dress. A child can also stitch or weave a backpack, a pair of socks or a small purse which they will adore. You can decorate your stitched patch work with beads and laces. Also smaller items like a table mat, wall hangings, quilts, school bags covers and others can be stitched.
Recycling crafts: They are the most useful and productive crafts which can be taken up during summers. You can teach your child to recycle papers and make items out of waste cans, tins, glass and so on. Old clothes can also be used to make pillows and quilts for your pets. Floor mats can also be created. This method is one of the most in expensive and easy one.
Wood crafts: wood craft projects are very easy to work on. Strips of wood can be coloured, shaped and made into useful items or decorative pieces. One can make their own bird house or door signs, decorative wall pieces or a flower piece. Supervision of an adult is needed in such cases so as to shape the wood with the precise measurements.
Floral and nature crafts: Nature offers us varied forms of materials from the sand to the flowers, barks, leaves, straws and so on.
