Lockdown Day 30: Turn beer bottles into beautiful lamps
Beer bottles can be used for an array of decorative items such as a beer bottle table, Christmas tree, table lamp, chandelier and so on. During the lockdown, you can try making your own beer bottle chandelier or a simple decorative table lamp, which can be a great addition to your home decor apart from just lighting up your room.
To make a beer bottle chandelier, the most ideal thing to do is to get your desired shaped metal frame made at the blacksmiths. That being not practical for a long time now, you can make a simple DIY metal ring or a circular plastic hanger to hang the bottles. Refer online sites to get an idea about shapes/designs. If you find this too tedious, you can Simply cut a bottle as shown in the video below and make a beautiful table lamp.
Design the frame accordingly, if you prefer a two tiered or a three tiered chandelier. The amount of space and the display area should also be considered before getting a frame done.
Gather all the beer bottles and ensure that they are equal in number. The bottles should be of the same length but can vary if you prefer a step chandelier. You can either opt for same colored or different colored bottles.
Cleaning the bottles should be paid thorough attention as the smell and the dirt should be completely removed. A mixture of warm water and detergent can be used to clean the bottles. Do not forget to remove the label adhesive and sanitize the bottles followed by wiping them with a soft dry cloth.
Another perfect idea of making a beer bottle chandelier would be to recycle the old chandelier and instead replace it with the beer bottles. Since the frame is already designed, making a beer bottle chandelier will be easier for you.
Before arranging the bottles, count the number of bottles required and ensure that each bottle fits perfectly in the holder. Remember to place each bottle tightly so as to avoid them from falling. Keep few spare bottles for emergency.
Experiment before arranging the bottles and make the bottle arrangements on a tier basis. Create an imaginative colored bottle chandelier and decide if it goes well with the home decor. The number of bottles should be decided based on the lighting types. Making use of glue to keep them in place.
Mounting the chandelier on the ceiling requires careful planning based on the area and the available space. If you have a chandelier kit, you will have an instructions booklet and if the chandelier is made on your own, you will have to be careful. Adding lighting to the chandelier is optional.
