Tips to make a window alarm for your apartment

window alarmWith increasing thefts in India, the apartment owners are at risk of being burgled. Safe guarding the valuables in an apartment is a dreary task and one needs to be alert and think of different ways to safeguard one’s possessions.

One of the best ways to safeguard your valuables is to have a window alarm. If you are planning to leave your apartment for few days, do not forget to get your window alarm before you leave. Perhaps you can even carry it to your holiday home or a hotel.

Follow the below points to learn how to make and install a window alarm;

Things needed:

# 1/2-inch alligator clip

# 9-volt battery

# Electrical tape

# 12-inch length of thin, insulated wire similar to what you would see in an ear bud

# Battery operated buzzer

# Cutting tool

# Cardboard about 2 inches long and 1/4 inch wide

window alarmsTo install a window alarm in your apartment, you should slide the cardboard sticking out about 1 ¾ inches between the alligator clip jaws. This will prevent them from touching.

Take the wire and cut it into three pieces each measuring 6 inches and 3 inches. Use a knife to strip about ¼ inch of the insulation from each end of the three wires.

An end of the 6 inch wire should be attached to the crown post of the battery with the other end attached to the bare metal handles on the alligator clip with the help of electrical tape. Ensure that the wire attachment is quite sturdy.

The 3 inch wires should be fastened with a tape to the smoother part of the battery followed by the other end fastened to the screw posts on the buzzer. The remaining 3 inch wire should be taped from the other screw post to the buzzer along with the handle on the alligator clip.

To test the alarm, pull the cardboard from the alligator clip and once the cardboard is removed the buzzer causes a sound and the electrical circuit is complete. The buzzer can be stopped by putting the cardboard back.
