Kothrud, Pune

Kothrud is a suburb area in the south west of the city of Pune, Maharashtra in India. The locality was famously known as Kothrud Baug in the era of the Peshwas. Pune's first flyover "Savarkar flyover near Paud Phata" was built at Kothrud.

It is known as one of the fastest growing suburbs in India with the rapid growth in housing sector. Located relatively near the center of industrializing city, the locality proves to be one of the upmarket areas of Pune.

Karve Road and Paud Road are the areas covering Kothrud. Housing and residential developments can be seen on both sides of Paud road. Kothrud has two main bus depots; Kothrud Depot and Kothrud Stand. It has close proximity to parts of the Pune areas such as Hadapsar, Railway station and Swargateand Nigdi.

Kothrud has maximum of middle-class Maharashtrian families. Even today the locality is known for its old houses which is built during 80's in the central old Pune. Approximately the total population is around 2Lakhs.

Well known educational institutions here draw students from across the India, Indian subcontinent and Africa. Abhinava Vidyalaya English Medium School, MES Bal Shikshan Mandir English Medium School, Maharashtra Institute of Technology School, Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development (IMED), Cummins Women's College, Millennium Nation School, Sanskriti School, Marathwada Mitra Mandal's College Of Engineering, Pune.(MMCOE), Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University are few of the education institutions at Kothrud.

It is a home for manufacturing plant of Cummins India which is one of the largest engines and minor manufacturing by Kirloskar group. The residential real estate in Kothrud is showing developing pace with many new apartment projects launching. With the expansion of IT companies and many other places such as Citypride Kothrud the locality is fast gaining importance.
