Overview
Salt Lake City, located in the north-eastern parts of Kolkata is a planned satellite town in the Indian state of West Bengal. This locality is also known as Bidhannagar. It was developed between 1958 and 1965 to accommodate the thriving population of Kolkata. It got its name from exactly that - a salt lake. Connectivity
The Eastern Metropolitan Bypass (EM Bypass) links the area to localities in south Kolkata.
A Metro link to Salt Lake City under the second phase of the East-West Metro Project is likely to be operational by December 2020. This will boost connectivity from Bidhannagar to other parts of the city. The Metro route shall connect Howrah Maidan (East) to Salt Lake Sector V (West).
It has excellent connectivity to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at 12.9 km via Jessore Road.
Dumdum Metro Station is the nearest metro station to Salt Lake City which is located at 9.5 km via Canal Circular Road.
Dum Dum and Bidhan Nagar Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Salt Lake City. However, Bidhan Nagar Railway Station is the nearest railway station which is located at a distance of 4.7 km via Ist Avenue.
It has excellent connectivity to major railway junctions of Kolkata Such as Sealdah, Howrah, Shalimar and Kolkata Railway Station. Sealdah Railway Station is one of the major railway stations serving Kolkata. Sealdah is one of the busiest railway stations in India and an important suburban rail terminal. After completion, Kolkata Metro Line 2 will pass through Sealdah.
