Smart city scheme
The central government had launched the smart city mission on 25th June this year. According to the program, each state was allowed to nominate a certain number of smart cities. Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of nominations with 13 cities, followed by Tamil Nadu with 12 and Maharashtra with 10 cities. The cities are selected via a ‘city challenge competition’ where they would be graded against certain criteria. Out of the 100 smart cities, 20 will be developed this year and 40 each will be developed in subsequent years.
