Natural ways to keep pest out of your garden

What’s most blissful for an ardent nature lover or who loves gardening? Yes, lush green leaves, bright flowers, blossoming buds, and growing fruits. But simple encounters with garden insects can spoil all the beauty of your gardens. Here are few easy and natural ways to keep these little visitors away from your green paradise.

  1. Eggshells are waste and directly go to the garbage bin. But you might be not aware that eggshells are the best pesticide to keep garden insects at bay. They are high in potassium and calcium and make the soil insurmountably fertile. Rinse the shells, dry them and convert them into powder. You can also use crushed eggshells directly to the soil.
  2. A good natural way to get rid of troublesome bugs is to boil chopped onion, chopped garlic and some crushed red pepper in water for at least 15 minutes. Dilute the solution by taking two table spoons of it and mixing it in a pint of water. All you need to do is to spray it onto plants. A few plants that repel insects are marigolds, spearmint, and catnip. These aromatic herbs also attract predators that keep pests under control.
  3. Baking powder is not only useful in your kitchen but in your garden too. Mixed it with flour and sprinkle around the plants to deter worms and aphids. This is also effective to put a stop on spreading fungus. You can easily make a natural fungicidal spray by mixing baking powder, vegetable oil, water and natural dish-washing liquid. Spray it lightly over the fungus-affected parts. Avoid over using or pouring to the soil.
  4. Another kitchen stuff that helps to keep your plants safe and prevents them from snacking down by small creatures is coffee. It adds nitrogen to the soil and increases the acidity for acid loving plants such as tomatoes, blueberries, roses, etc. Best of all, many garden insects can’t stand coffee grounds. So bring on the coffee and make insects run away from your plants.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of chilly powder around your plants and on leaves. This method can deter ants and slugs. Moreover, it is a completely natural method and it won’t damage your plants. This low cost method interestingly helps to get desirable results without any fuss.

Garden insects deteriorate the health of plants and obviously are detrimental to the garden. It is indeed very disheartening to see your plants eaten up or mangled by these pests.
