Affordable Renting Options in Western Suburbs
Western suburbs are amongst the most expensive localities in Mumbai and beyond the affordable range, both in terms of capital values as well as rentals. However, there are several people who prefer to stay in these suburbs either due to the style quotient or employment purposes. Here are a few western suburbs where you can find rental properties at an affordable price.
Kandivali
Kandivali is a western suburb, which is not too far from the high profile western suburbs such as Andheri or Bandra yet, not as expensive as these western suburbs. The locality was once an industrial area, but has now transformed into a residential hot spot. The locality is also well connected to other suburbs via the SV Road, Western Express Highway (WEH), Mulund-Goregaon Link and Malad-Andheri Link Road. Kandivali is also at a close proximity to commercial centres such as Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Andheri SEEPZ. Apart from good connectivity and civic infrastructure, the locality has a good social infrastructure.
With Kandivali becoming a residential hot spot, there are numerous apartments that have become available for rent. The most common apartment configurations are 1, 2 and a few 3BHK units. The approximate monthly rental of a 1BHK apartment is in the range of Rs 10,000-25,000, while that of a 2BHK is in the range of Rs 20,000-35,000. Borivali
If you are looking for a cheaper locality in the western suburbs, Borivali is a place that may fit your pocket size. The locality is just beyond Kandivali and accessible from other suburbs. The WEH passes through Borivali, while the Borivali railway station lies on the western line of the Mumbai suburban railway. There are also a monorail and metro station to come up here. The Mumbai International Airport is just about 14 km from the locality. While Borivali has some good social amenities, it is also known as the suburb of gardens due to its greenery and gardens. It is also the only suburb in Mumbai with forests to its east and west.
The most common housing configurations available for rent are 1BHK apartments, followed by 2BHK and 3BHK flats. The approximate monthly rental of a 1BHK apartment is in the range of Rs 10,000-20,000. The approximate monthly rental of a 2BHK apartment is about Rs 15,000-30,000, while that of a 3BHK apartment is between Rs 25,000-40,000.
Dahisar

There is also a proposed monorail station here. There are regular BEST buses from the locality to areas such as Bandra (West), Chunabhatti and Santacruz. One can reach the Mumbai International Airport within 45 minutes. The area, though small, also has some good social as well as civic amenities. The area has smoother roads, sidewalks and several flyovers to WEH to ease traffic. It has educational institutions, hospitals, entertainment and recreational facilities such as malls, cinemas, restaurants and sports clubs.
All these, along with lower property prices compared to other western suburbs, have made Dahisar a good place for rentals for people who work in the CBDs such as BKC. The most common housing types available are 1, 2 and 3BHK apartments. The approximate monthly rental of 1BHK apartments is between Rs 10,000-20,000 while that of a 2BHK apartment is about Rs 18,000-25,000.
