International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on the 8th of March. Countries like Russia, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland and others were the ones to celebrate Women’s Day first. This significant event is celebrated based on various themes.
Objective of Women’s day/ IWD:
International women’s day is celebrated to mark respect, love and appreciation to woman’s achievements in social, political and economic sectors. The UN theme for 2012 is ‘Empowering women and putting an end to hunger and poverty.’
National Women’s Day was celebrated in United States in 1909. Since 1909, every country celebrated Women’s Day but on a different date. After 1977, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 8 as the UN Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. This event was declared in order to promote equal rights like the right to vote, hold public offices, against employment sex discrimination and suffrage of women. In Some countries like Afghanistan, China, Romania, Russia, Mongolia, International Women’s Day is an official holiday.

Women’s day in Apartments in India:
In India, the women enjoyed equal status with men in all fields of life.
