Civic panel allocates Rs.20 crore to PMPML
The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has been approved Rs. 20 crore by the standing committee, as a support to continue the free and subsidized passes’ scheme in the city.
PMPML suffered a deficit of about Rs. 60 crores in 2012-2013. The authority had asked for support from the PMC and had demanded about Rs.33 crores from the civic authority.
Features of the subsidized passes’ scheme
A number of passes are given to the commuters of the city by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), to ensure that they have a smooth and cost-effective traveling experience.
Cost of passes
The authority issues Daily Passes that cost Rs.50/-. The same can be used for traveling within the PMC / PCMC limits. Weekly passes are available at Rs. 350/- and can be used on all routes for 7 days, from the date of issue.
Upon paying Rs.1200/-, one can avail a monthly pass, which can be used to travel inside the PMC/PCMC limits, and a pass worth Rs.1500/- enables one to travel outside PMC/PCMC limits for the whole month.
Students are also highly benefited by the subsidized pass scheme as upon availing a Students’ Monthly Pass of Rs.600/-, they can travel on all routes for multiple trips. They can also opt for the other Students Monthly Pass, which can be used for travel from home to school/college. However, it is valid only for to and fro travel once a day, and the pass is issued only if upon submission, the required form is signed and stamped by the school authority.
Senior Citizens’ Monthly Pass is provided to senior citizens in the city, upon submission of an application at the department. They can also avail a day pass at a cost of just Rs.30. Staff Monthly Pass is provided by the PMPML to PMC staff, at a cost of Rs. 700/-. The same can be used to travel on all routes, for one month.
The authority also provides I-Cards for students, passengers and senior citizens at a cost of Rs.20/- , in addition to Passengers Monthly Pass that is valid for travel once a day, to and fro from pre-specified destinations. The charges are calculated by distance.
Pune Municipal Corporation also plans to introduce computerized pass centers for passengers and students in urban and rural Pune. Under this proposal, 32 centers would be developed in the city, in the next five years. These computerized centers would help in easy pass distribution in an effective manner. The same would be user-friendly, cost efficient and would help in easy accounting and in keeping the records up-to-date. Prevention of malfunctions and duplicate work would also be checked with the implementation of such computerized pass centers.
