Common home decorating flaws to be avoided
Home decoration comes with a lot of thoughts. It should reflect our taste and personality. Sometimes, we do tend to make some common home decoration errors which can make our home look messy and cluttered. Interior decoration has various rules and norms which are to be followed to create a professionally decorated look. The common home decorating mistakes can be easily avoided by following the below steps.
Placing rugs:
Do not use a small area rug in your home as having postage stamp sized rugs are the most common home decorating mistakes. Ensure that every furniture is placed on a large rug and in case if you find this difficult, you can place the front legs of the furniture on the larger pieces of the rugs with the back legs on the plain floor. And smaller four legged furniture can be completely placed on the rug.
Curtains:
Do not use short curtains and instead go in for the flowing ones which skim the floors. Curtains which are quite longer and puddle a bit are perfect for an appropriate home decoration. Using short curtains will make the wall look truncated than it is and will be equal to short pants.
Artwork:
Do not mount the art work too high or too closer to the ceiling. Artwork is supposed to be hung at about eye-level based on a person’s choice. Perhaps it is better to mount it on the lower side rather than higher.
Throw pillows:
Avoid using too many throw pillows. Although they add a great decorative accent, they should not be used many in quantity that you have to clear them all before you sit on the couch or bed.
Paint colour:
Avoid choosing the paint colour initially and instead consider the most expensive pieces in your home and choose the paint colours based on that. Paint colours are always available in plenty of shades.
Furniture:
Do not place all the furniture against a wall and instead pull them away from the walls, as the room size can make the arrangement look chaos. Placing furniture away from the wall will let you create more intimate conversation areas and is best suited for living rooms and family rooms. Also if your furniture back is fully finished and furnished, you should not hesitate to expose it’s back.
Accent pillows:
Do not use tiny accent pillows and if you are using throw pillows, ensure that they blend well with the furniture. Also, small and tiny pillows on large furniture look too lost.
Chandeliers:
Avoid hanging the chandeliers too high in any room since you are looking forward to light up the room and not the ceiling.
Choose decorative objects wisely:
Avoid replacing style over comfort. Most of us buy decorative objects as they look attractive but seldom provide comfort. Always ensure that you think about where and how will you use an object before buying it.
Thematic elements:
Avoid creating a theme room unless you really need one. Although, creating a theme room can be fun, but they tend to bore people very quickly. Theme rooms become old and outdated very soon and requires ample amount of time and money to replace items which are not required later. Instead, add thematic elements which you want to have in a regular room.
Lighting:
Avoid depending on overhead lighting, although it is good to have an overhead lighting, it does not offer much lighting and is not flattering. It is always wise to have a mixture of overhead, task and ambient lighting. You can use table lamps, sconces floor lamps and other classy colored lights to make the room more radiant as well as appealing.
