Concentrate on land record updation: Balasaheb Thorat
With people investing more on land, revenue officials are finding it hard to keep the receipts updated. The state revenue minister, Mr. Balasaheb Thorat, has given order to the revenue officials, to update the 7/12 extracts, claiming that the same would help to decrease the number of complaints which are affecting the productivity of the officials , and also assist the land owners.
A number of information, like survey number of the land, land owner’s and the cultivator’s name, area of the land, type of cultivation and type of crops planted, are collected in the 7/12 extract, which is an extract from the land register maintained by the revenue department of the government of Maharashtra. The extract is also known as the “Record of Rights” or “Record of Land Rights”. It records information on loans extended to the land owner, along with the reasons behind the same. The document also provides evidence of ownership of a particular land, and the document can be used as a proof of ownership in rural areas.
There has been a huge requirement of land for non-agricultural purpose. This is one of the reasons that are acting as a driving force to update the receipts. The minister informed the officials that the 7/12 extracts should be updated on a particular day, every month. This would help in learning if the land is traded or mortgaged.
