Create a meditation space in your apartment
Being locked-down can be really stressful for anyone and meditation is the best practise to reduce stress and maintain a peaceful mind. Having the right meditation room is important as the look and feel of your room can affect the quality of your meditation.
If you can’t afford to dedicate an entire room for meditation, you can even reserve a corner of your favourite room for this purpose. Consider the following tips while you set up a meditation room or space.
Designing the room:
Designing a meditation room can be extremely enjoyable task. A meditation room should be a place for tranquility and relaxation. Avoid having electronic devices such as television, computer, music system, etc. You should design your room in such a way that it helps create the mood for meditation.
The perfect location:
A meditation room should be far from all the distractions and if you are living in an apartment, use a space that doesn’t share wall with the other units. A room facing a garden or a lawn or a fountain will be suitable for meditation.
The color of the room:
Colours play an important role in creating a peaceful environment. Dark colours will make a room feel very cozy and also will make the room look smaller. But, lighter colors will make the room look spacious and brighter. Paint the room with a colour in which you feel calm. It is said that blues and yellows produce calming effect. Greens and blues are great choices for the meditation room.
Lighting:
Have lights that will calm you. Natural light is always the best. Also you can use candles to create soft light. Avoid having fluorescent lights in the room as this can cause fatigue and anxiety.
Dream chart:
Have a dream chart in your room. The chart is made in a paper filled with images of your goals and desires. It is believed that meditating at them will make them come true.
Don’t clutter:
Don’t clutter your room with too many things. Avoid decorating your room with too many accessories and wall hangings even though you fancy them as they might distract you. Have things which will relax you like scented candles, ornamental plants and fountains.
Relaxed seating:
You can have a pair of bamboo/wicker chair or get plenty of soft cushions and mats. Remember that, to meditate in peace you need to be physically comfortable.
Air quality:
Have low emission paints to minimise the presence of chemical fumes. If you want high gloss paint in your meditation room, you should choose a water based variety.
Aromatic room:
Fragrances play a major role in meditation. Ensure that you have scents which create calming and relaxing effect. Sandalwood is one of the popular scents used by the Buddhists for its warm, thick and rich aroma. You can also have lavender, violet and jasmine scents along with few herbs in your room.
