DDA Launches Portal to Register Properties in Unauthorized Colonies

On Monday, Union Housing and Urban Affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched a portal of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in Rohini for registration of properties in unauthorized colonies in the city.
During the launch of the portal, Puri said that the government is bound to helping 50 lakh residents of unauthorized colonies. Now, the applicants can apply for ownership rights online.
Out of 1,731 unauthorized colonies, more than 1,500 maps have already been outlined and maps of more than 1,100 have been uploaded on the portal till now.
Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is the nodal agency for the implementation of the regularisation process. It has also established more than 50 helpdesks at various locations including, Dwarka, Karkardooma, Vasant Kunj, Azadpur and Mundka, to address the queries of residents and facilitate all necessary assistance to applicants.
On 2nd December 2019, the authority has started 25 helpdesks, residents of unauthorized colonies began visiting these helpdesks to get themselves registered on the portal and more than 8,300 applicants have already been registered for ownership rights in the unauthorized colonies. Since the applications will have to be made online, the helpdesk has been designed to help those who may not be comfortable with online applications. Each helpdesk has deputy directors and assistant directors rank officials, who are being helped by two data entry operators and one supporting staff members.
During the launch of the portal, Puri said that charges have been given to DDA to facilitate the process in a specified time-frame that will allow the residents of these colonies to get ownership rights. He further added that more than 50 lakh people residing in unauthorized colonies in Delhi are being awarded ownership right under PM-UDAY.
The process to apply online for ownership rights:
- The registration of property will be done only in the name of the woman head of the family, or co-jointly with the male member of the house.
- The applicants will have to register and upload the required documents such as general power of attorney, payment receipt, possession letter on the DDA website.
- DDA officials will visit the spot for verification. They will help the applicants remove deficiencies, in case if there is any.
- Ownership certificates will be given within 180 days from the date of application.
- To get ownership certificates, the residents will have to pay charges published by the central government, along with stamp duty and registration charges on the last transaction.
DDA Unauthorized Colonies Updates:
On 23 October 2019, the cabinet approved ownership rights to more than 40 lakh residents of 1,731 unauthorized colonies in Delhi, despite, the properties in these colonies are not registered till date. Later, Parliament also passed the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Unauthorised Colonies) Bill, 2019 which intends to grant legal status to unauthorized colonies in Delhi. The bill is now pending before President for his approval.
In November 2019, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that residents of unauthorized colonies will be able to apply for ownership rights beginning from 16th December 2019. He had also launched a DDA portal to explain and draw outlines of unauthorized colonies and ask suggestions and feedback from residents’ welfare associations (RWA) of these colonies within 15 days from the date of uploading maps and boundaries on the portal.
