Decorating Your Home For Winter

Winter is the coldest season of the year and this can leave you with a huge power bill. It is time to think about keeping the heat in and the cold out. The first key thing in presenting a warmer atmosphere in your home decor is to decorate with warm colors. The home decor that looks great in summer might not be comfortable in winter. Seasonal decoration adds charm to your home by giving it a new fresh look. Here are some winter theme for decorating your home or apartment.

Winter Decoration for Apartment

There are some simple tricks and ideas for making your home warmer. It is a good idea to start thinking about ways to save money on your heating bill and presenting a warmer atmosphere. Here are a few things you can do to keep warm.

Add colors: The first key in presenting a warmer atmosphere in your home décor is to decorate with warm colors. Use bright colored upholsteries, curtains, bedcovers, pillows and vases. There should be colors everywhere. Get a colorful painting for the living room to liven it up. By adding a few freshly cut flowers or potted plants, you can also add much needed light and color into your apartment for this winter. Choose colors that will make best use of the scanty sunlight and keep your rooms warm.
Insulation: Doors and windows should be checked for air leaks around the edges and the lock. Before the winter gets, it’s a good idea to inspect them and see if they need repairing. Also inspect the outside of your home and use caulking to fill any cracks. Do not block foundation vents. If you block your vents you will encourage the growth of mold, mildew and wood rot.
Close unused rooms: Closing up unused rooms is an excellent way to save money and energy. Many houses have some kind of unused room. If you are not using them, why heat them? If you have some rooms you never use, it’s a great idea to block them off. That way you’ll be only heating the areas you regularly use.
Curtains: Many people, during the colder months replace their thin curtains for heavier ones to ensure that cold air is kept out. Most heavy curtains, especially those used during the holiday season, are darker colors, such as hunter green or a deep red, blue etc. You can pick up cheap old curtains at thrift shops or even in a local sale instead of buying expensive curtains.
Rugs and Carpets: Rugs not only feel good and warm under your feet, but also add color and texture to any room. Geometrical pattern carpets are good for contemporary settings, while you can try out traditional Persian carpets for the more antique look.
Hot water bottle: A hot water bottle is a container filled with hot water and sealed with a stopper, used to provide warmth. They heat amazingly well and are cheap to buy and use. Putting a hot water bottle into the bottom of your bed before you go to sleep means you are sure to go to a warm bed.
Door draft stopper: During cold weather, the cost of heating your home can be expensive. You do not want your warm air escaping under your door. These ingenious items allow you to block drafts that sneak in through even the tightest fitting door. Simply place them along the bottom of a closed door.
Scented candles: Choose candles that complement your home decor or the specific theme for which they are being used. Candles will give your apartment an instantly warm feeling. They can be placed in individual holders or clustered together on a plate or inside a bowl. Cinnamon is a wonderful aroma to have in your apartment for winter months.

There are people who change the interior design of their home every season. Seasonal decoration adds charm to your home by giving it a new fresh look. For winter home décor, the best deal is to play with some nice bright colors in heavy fabric that bring warmth and coziness.
