Digitalisation in real estate gaining momentum
From May 1, register your property online.
A decade ago, buying a house online was an alien concept. However, with the advent of several real estate portals, this has become quite common. Truly, in today’s world of digitalisation, going online is ‘the’ buzzword. From buying groceries to house, booking tickets to paying bills, everything is just a click away. And real estate is not far behind in this online race. While property portals are gaining grounds in India, several housing authorities are also looking to go online. And why won’t they! It not only saves time but also makes the entire process more transparent.
Hyderabad steals the show in this. Maintaining land records is one of the most tedious tasks that the authorities do. To make the entire process smooth, the city is converting the land records into digital form. Thus, all the land records will be maintained online. This will save buyers from numerous visits to the registration office for the details pertaining to any property. In addition to this, the registration of the property would be done online. This will also keep a check on the fake registrations. This process will be implemented from May 1.
Though Hyderabad is the torchbearer, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Noida Authority are also following Hyderabad’s footsteps in going online. Land encroachment is a common problem in Delhi. As of now, about 1,500 acres of DDA’s land has already been encroached upon. To keep an eye on that, DDA recently announced that encroachment will now be tracked online by ‘real-time mapping through satellite’.
The work on this has already started. This, according to experts, along with identifying encroached areas will also help us in preventing further encroachments.
Like Hyderabad, DDA is also working to make all the records computerised. It would help tracking old and existing files. This initiative has been well-received by the developers community. “The world is going digital as it is easier, faster and cheaper. Digitisation of DDA and Noida authority is a great step and this will surely make all the required information available just at a click’s go. This will also bring more transparency in the system. With increasing queries, demand and population, digitisation was the real solution,” says Deepak Kapoor, director, Gulshan Homz.
Truly, the wind of digitalisation has caught the fancies of the civic authorities. Will it actually benefit the consumers and developers? For this, we need to wait and watch!
