DIY-How to Make Holi colors at home?With Holi around the corner, there is a festive buzz in the air. As much as Holi is a festival of colors, joy and laughter, the use of toxic colors sometimes adds a negative impact to the wonderful festival. This Holi make sure you use homemade colors instead of the toxic colors available in the market. The use of homemade colors would not only make sure there is no harmful element for your skin as well as making them safe for the environment.

DIY Dry Colors

Green Colors: for making green color, you can use organic henna or mehendi powder available in the market. Mix the henna powder with equal quantity of flour and you have a lovely green dry color ready for your Holi party. While selecting the dry Henna always opt for organic Henna which is without any Amla which can bring a shade of brown to the Henna and the subsequent color.

Yellow Colors: To make a yellow dry color, what better than using the traditional turmeric or Haldi. One can also use the traditional gram flour commonly known as Besan to make rich yellow dry color. Haldi comes in various forms and it is a good idea to opt for a Kasturi Haldi which will add a unique fragrance to your yellow color. Mix equal quantity of Haldi with Besan or common flour to get as much as yellow color as you need for your Holi festivities.

Red: Getting red dry color for your Holi party is as easy as using red sandal wood powder easily available at your nearest grocery store. Conversely you can also use lal chandan or pterocarpus santalinus and make your own home made gulaal. Add equal quantity of lal chandan or red sandalwood powder and mix it with flour to get an even red colored home made gulaal ready for your Holi party.

DIY Wet Colors

What’s Holi without some wet colors you may say? Well here are some DIY tips to make your own home made wet Holi colours with ease.

Blue: It is a good idea to make use of the blue hibiscus flower to get a natural blue color for your Holi party. Dry the petal of the blue hibiscus flower and powder them to have an even dry natural blue color. Boil a tumbler of water mixing it with the dry hibiscus powder. Conversely you can also use berries of the indigo plant while boiling to get a wet blue color ready to be spilled on your loved ones and friends.

Brown: Ever thought of using left over tea leaves for something useful? Tea leaves that are drained and sued can be a perfect ingredient for making brown wet color. Boil left over tea leaves in water, cool and filter the water to get your very homemade brown wet color.

Magenta: Onions and beetroot not only make nutritious salads but can be used for making magenta colored wet color for your Holi party. Slice the beetroot and soak it in one liter of water overnight. The next day boil the water and allow it to cool overnight. Drain the liquid and your home made blue wet colour solution is ready to go.
