Earthing Is Essential For Human Safety

Some builders or property owners often not give much attention to earthing. The consequences could be devastating sometimes. Apartment complexes are much less prone to earthing problems as various inspections are mandated by law before the office of the chief electrical inspector clears the wiring system of that building complex. But it is important to ensure that your home or property has proper Earthing for the safety of its residents. If an earthing wire is not there then the current can flow through the human being when he touches an appliance which has a leak. Thus a person is subjected to shocks which can be dangerous.
What is an Earthing?
The earth is an important concept with electrical wiring because the earth does not carry a current. The purpose of earthing is to minimize the risk of receiving an electric shock if touching metal parts when a fault is present. An electrical shock occurs when you accidentally touch a live conductor. Obviously, the best way to avoid getting an electrical shock is to avoid touching a live conductor. However, there may be a fault in the wiring that causes a shock to occur.
Due to faulty earthing, you usually get shocked when you touch exposed (unpainted) metal or water, such as the back of your computer, an exposed screw on an air conditioner, and so on.

Need for Earthing
- Earthing is used to protect you from an electric shock. Earthing provides a path for fault current to flow to earth.
- Earthing plays an important role in ensuring safe generation, transmission & distribution of an electric system.
- Without a system of grounding or earthing we could potentially be surrounded by deadly voltages and be unaware until we made contact with them.
- If an alteration or addition made to your electrical installation, a qualified electrician must check earthing because safety of new work or alteration depends on the earthing of the building or property.
- Most people won’t be able to feel electricity until it goes somewhere above 25 volts. Thus, damage can occur to sensitive computer components without the human being sensitive to the damage.
- Earthing of the equipment causes the protection to act and isolates the faulty equipment from service.
The earth is an important concept with electrical wiring because the earth does not carry a current. It is also important to note that water is an excellent conductor of electricity. Therefore, even more care must be taken when installing wiring in places such as the bathroom, kitchen etc. A ground is a wire connected to an uninterrupted metal electrical conductor that deeply penetrates the ground. Sometimes you don’t have to drive a rod. Some breaker boxes are already grounded, particularly in high-rise buildings where the breaker boxes have been installed properly. Obviously, the best way to avoid getting an electrical shock is to avoid touching a live conductor and it is best to leave this type of electrical work to professionals.
