Eco-Friendly air fresheners for your home

Eco-Friendly Air Fresheners for Your HomeThe room freshener gives you an odor-free home, but most of the perfumes, you get in the market contains serious toxins that do you more harm than good. So, how to keep your home smelling clean without toxic air fresheners?

Side Effects of air fresheners

Most of the perfumes available in the market are made with ingredients like benzene, formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that cause neurological damage and cancer. The chemicals deaden your nasal nerves, impairing you from your sense of smell for a short time. So, instead of going for the synthetic alternative (even though they have ‘naturally made’ written on them), consider whipping up your very own homemade air fresheners.

Homemade Eco-Friendly Air Fresheners

air freshenerYou can either buy eco-Friendly air fresheners or make your own homemade air fresheners. You can find plant-based air fresheners and biodegradable and non-aerosol sprays. The popular materials used to spice up a home are lemon, lavender and orange. But there are other resources that you can use to make your own set.

Aromatic diffusers: Diffusers have antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties and are ideal for purifying and freshening the air. You can make them easily enough by boiling a pot of water and adding a few drops of essential oil like lemon or eucalyptus. The aroma of the oil will spread through the room, purifying it.

Coffee: There is nothing more invigorating than a hot cup of coffee in the morning. But have you considered using it as an air freshener too? The smell of coffee is a deep and penetrating one, whether you ground it or brew it, and it can absorb nasty smells like those of garlic. A few bowls of fresh ground coffee around the house would take away awful odors and maintain a fresh atmosphere.

Herbal potpourri: Set a mix of beautiful dried flowers, fragrant herbs and essential oils into a bowl and keep them in your rooms. The pleasing smell would remind you of pleasant summers and keep the odor away.

Indoor plants: There is nothing better than green plants to purify the air. Find out which kind of plants will be more suitable for indoors and purify air and place them in your home to reduce indoor allergens and pollutants.

Scented candles: Candles are not only romantic and useful during a blackout, they can also ward of bad smells. Scented candles are available in the markets, and these are made of essential oils and give off pleasing fragrances that alleviate unpleasant odors.

Apart from setting up your own air fresheners and purifiers, you should also ventilate your house properly. Proper circulation of air and light would ensure that no unpleasant odors would linger.
