What is a weed barrier and its types?
A weed barrier is a rot proof fabric laid on oversite, which allows the drainage while minimising the weed growth. Weed barriers come in many forms and are both organic and inorganic. Each weed barrier has both advantages and disadvantages. The types like landscape plastic, landscape fabric, newspaper/paper bag fabric and mulch can be used in a garden.
Steps to use a weed barrier:
- Choose an area where you want to construct the weed barrier. Clear the area by removing the weeds and prepare the ground for planting.
- You need to measure the area in order to install the weed barrier.
- A weed barrier can be either made at home or can be bought from stores. The weed barrier should be cut according to the area and specifications.
- Once the weed barrier is cut according to the size, you should cut holes large enough to accommodate the plants which you want to cultivate.
- The barrier should be secured in place with the metal stakes which can be bought from any hardware store. This will prevent the barrier from moving when you plant or mulch the garden.
- You should place the plants in areas which has the cut barrier. The plants should be placed in depth.
However, to make your garden even more beautiful you can cover the area which has plants with decorative rocks.
