GNIDA sets anti-encroachment demolition drive
The Greater Noida Authority (GNIDA) had set out on an anti-encroachment demolition drive against illegal colonizers in Phase-II on Monday. During the drive, the authority has acquired around 300 acres of land, which is worth Rs 1,200 crore, in a prime location.
The demolition drive was held by the GNIDA following repeated complaints about illegal colonizers plotting and selling government land to innocent buyers. The GNIDA officials, accompanied with police, flattened the government land situated between two villages- Aamka and Dhumanikpur – along a 7km stretch. Officials said that the land use of the area has not been defined yet.
Notifications had been displayed over boards on the freed land in order to prevent any illegal land acquisition and construction activities in the area. Despite of these notifications, around 300 acres of land in the two villages was occupied by land mafia and illegal squatters.
Officials claimed that even after putting out warnings about illegal colonizers, many innocent individuals had lost money as they invested in the unscrupulous projects. The officials warned individuals from investing with any developer without prior verification of all the credentials and their genuineness.
Last month, when a group of GNIDA officials had conducted a similar demolition drive against illegal colonizers in Kayampur village, an irate mob had resorted to violence. After the anti-encroachment squad commenced its drive, some of the villagers started pelting stones at Authority personnel. Keeping this incident in mind, several cops from various police stations had accompanied the GNIDA officials in the recent drive. District administration officials and PAC personnel also participated in the joint operation to clear the illegal occupation.
As per the GNIDA officials, plotted development of five illegal colonies, including Green City, Sainik Vihar, Sai Enclave, Krishna Enclave, a colony meant for weaker sections, along with site offices of unauthorized developers, their booking offices, several residential units, roads and sewers were demolished during the drive.
Authority chairman and CEO Rama Raman has issued strict instructions to officials to not spare unauthorized colonizers. He has directed the officials to demolish all the illegal constructions happening in its jurisdiction.
In this regard, GNIDA has also lodged complaint against 90 people in the Badalpur police station. Officials said FIRs related to many land mafia cases have been lodged in September 2012 and in last month too.
In the last month, the Greater Noida Authority had also freed several acres of encroached land that was reserved for a district prison.
