GSHP-II to Change Gujarat’s Realty
Highways are always a good news for a city and state’s real estate market as they provide connectivity and accessibility to different cities as well as localities. This creates a socio-economic growth in the area, leading to growth in the residential real estate market. The Gujarat State Highway Project (GSHP) is such a project that is changing the shape of the realty sector in Gujarat.
The state government successfully implemented the first phase of GSHP in 2007. The project helped in paving a good number of roads in the state as well as the state highway. The phase II is now under way and is expected to improve the quality of the core road network in the state.
GSHP phase II
The second phase costs an estimated Rs 19,400 million. Almost 60 per cent of the total cost is funded by the World Bank. The Gujarat government is funding Rs 7,700 million. The remaining Rs 1,200 million will be provided under IBRD’s innovative financing component. The stretch of the state highway to be developed is already selected. The stretch is selected such that it improves the accessibility to some backward tribal areas as well. It will also accelerate the secondary road network around the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). One of the aims of the state government is to boost investment prospects through the project.
The corridors will pass through 16 districts. The second phase will involve widening of eight stretches and maintaining seven stretches. The project will also involve improving road safety along these stretches.
Stretches to be improved
The eight stretches that will be widened and strengthened involve the Daboi-Badeli, Bayad-Lunavada, Atkot-Gondal, Umreth-Vasad, Dhansura-Meghraj, Lunavada-Khedapa, Mehsana-Himmatnagar and Dhandhuka-Dholera stretch. It covers a total length of 393 km. The road stretches that will be maintained include Amod-Karjan, Karjan-Borsad, Savarkundla-Dhasa, Tharad-Deesa, Atkot-Paliyad, Surendranagar-Limbdi and Limbdi-Dhandhuka stretch. This covers a total length of 234 km.
Improving these stretches will greatly improve the connectivity of all these districts with the cities of Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Rajkot. As such, one may also witness improved economic activity, employment opportunities as well as increased real estate activity along these stretches in the coming future.
