When you look for a senior housing, there are many options available, from independent care to assisted living and from affordable to luxury apartments. There can be various reasons for moving into senior-friendly apartments such as divorce, become financially unstable, relocation of friends, death of relatives, etc.
Most elderly would look for two types of senior apartment communities:
Independent living apartment:
If you or your dear one is a senior citizen and is quiet capable of handling himself/herself, you can opt for an independent living apartment. These apartments have communities with a wide range of recreational and social activities. They are also designed for independent seniors who wish to live on their own but yearn for a security, community-oriented environment. Although these apartments offer a very little health services, they have on-site pharmacies/nursing care. Other services offered on campus such as laundry facilities, transportation or cafeterias. Most of the independent living apartments have constantly planned events like social gatherings, group outings and exercise classes, cultural activities and so on.
To get the right independent living apartment, one should consult with seniors and know about the ways they would like to socialise and maintain their space. If a senior citizen is quite healthy, an independent apartment would be the best.
Assisted living apartment:
An assisted living apartment comprise of housing, personalised support services and healthcare. These sorts of apartments are for the senior citizens who need assistance for their daily chores like bathing, grooming, medication, dressing and so on. These apartments also include meals, housekeeping and laundry services with certain amount of medical care. If a senior citizen is healthy but requires assistance for only routine daily activities, then assisted living apartments are the best.
