How to ensure your apartment is safe and secured?

Tips to make your apartment living safe and securedOften apartment security is overlooked by the people residing in it. With the increasing apartment crimes like burglaries and home invasions, it has become imperative to make sure that you and your apartment are safe and secured.

Here are a few tips to make your apartment living safe and secured.

Make sure you have a good locking system for your door. Never keep your door open when you go inside or outside the house even for just a minute. Always lock your door while going out. Ensure you have a peephole in your door. If not, you can also install an LCD door bell.

Never let anyone inside without checking who he/she is. Check identity cards of any service man. Don’t open the door unless you are sure.

Install home security system to prevent intruders from entering your house while you are away. Put motion sensors to notify any suspicious movement in your house.

While going out, check properly that all the windows and doors of the house are properly locked. Put down all the curtains. Open window is an invitation to thieves and burglars.

It is very important to be cautious in parking and lift. Do not keep valuable items in your car, especially which are easily visible. Park car in well lit area and keep the doors locked. Do not enter the lift if you are suspicious of the person already inside the lift.

Get to know your neighbor. You may need them at the time of any emergency. Ask them to keep an eye on the house if you are going out of station.

Never put your full name on the door, mailbox and apartment directory. Just use your first initial and surname.

Do not notify everyone while going out of station. Do not post on social networking site about no one being at your home. While you are away, use television or lights so that the house does not look unoccupied.

If you see any suspicious activity in the complex, if the lights of apartment complex are out at night, inform about the same to management.
