Karnataka to get Rs 1.1 lakh crore from centre for infra projects
Karnataka will get Rs 1.1 lakh crore for the improvement of infrastructure in the state. The fund would be utilized for the development of national highways and a seaport in the state. Nitin Gadkari (Minister for road transport & highways and shipping) said the national highways of about 4,000 km will be upgraded before the end of this December and center would spend Rs 60,000 crore this year and another Rs 40,000 crore in the next year.
The 4,000 km national highway network of 9,632 km to be upgraded will include the widening of National Highways like Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and Shiradi Ghat Highways that connects Bangalore and Mangalore. Another Rs 10,000 crore would be utilized for seaport in the state and capacity of all-weather New Mangalore Port would be doubled. The minister assured the centre’s support for carrying out Bangalore infra projects including peripheral ring road, metro and the suburban rail project.
Gadkari also said that Rs 10,000 crore has been sanctioned for road widening project including six-laning Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and widening of the NH-207 and of NH-4 from Nelamangala to Tumakuru.
Proposed Two New Metro Route
Meanwhile, Bengaluru City Development Minister K J George said two new metro routes would be proposed to the BMRCL – one from Dairy Circle to Nagawara and another from Silk Board to K R Puram.
