Map Your Bedroom For Harmonic Placement of Bedroom Furniture and Accessories
If you are planning to buy furniture for your new bedroom, you should first plan out the arrangement. Here are some simple steps to map your room layout, do the different combinations on the paper and check what is effective for you.
Step1. First, draw a rough square/rectangle outline of your bedroom on a paper.
Step2. Divide the square / rectangle into a grid of 1’ X 1’.
Step3. Mark the placement of prime entrance, window and any other doors(door to access the store or attached toilet, balcony) on the paper and place it in a way that the wall with the prime entrance in the room should be the lowest line of the plan.
Step4. Now leave the two rows of the grid along the walls and make a rectangle. This rectangle will help in determining the appropriate size of the bed for the room. In case the smaller side of the rectangle is less than 6’ or the longer side is less than 6’6”, the room is small for a king size bed. Buy queen size bed or other foldable bed for your room.
Step5. It is always recommended not to place any furniture in the front of the window, so leave two rows from the window for circulation. In case of the door it is better to keep two columns in the frontfor circulation to avoid banging against objects while entering the room. Now visualize path for people to navigate through and check if there is sufficient space to walk and access key points of the room.
Step6.Now cut a cutting for the bed (in proportion of the room on paper) and place the cutting at the remaining corner of the map in a way that its longer side is along the shorter side of the room.
Step7. After that, start dragging it towards the circulation space parallel to longer side. The space left along the wall can be used for storage.
If the room is quite big, try to add bedside table with lampshade on both the sides of the bed and a small table and chair in the front of the bed or window. Never overcrowd your room with furniture, try to keep the interiors simple and minimal. The color of the bedroom’s wall should be in combination with the furniture to provide a harmonious look. To add some life, walls of the bed room can be decorated with family photographs or paintings.
