Metro contractors in Bangalore in an uproar
Bangalore Namma metro has always managed to gain the spotlight, however, the recent attention garnered by it embarks on an adverse note. The small-time contractors, involved in the Metro-project work organized a protest against the BMRC recently, as an act of formal complaint highlighting the bouncing of the cheques issued.
According to market reports, around 160 of such contractors who were on the payroll of sub-contractor Bhoomi, have been the victims of delayed payments. These contractors, who were accountable for the underground stretch work at the Chickpet, did not receive payments on time from the authorities.
In-depth Overview
The project, which is in the news recently for all the wrong reasons, was previously awarded to some other sub-contractor. When the work was about to set in motion, the contractors were promised monthly payments without fail, however, it did not happen accordingly. The contractors were delayed on their payments and BMRC was held accountable for it.
However, BMRC had a different say on it and pointed out the dispute between the contractor and subcontractor. According to BMRC, the payment has been done accordingly and the ongoing dispute between the contractor and subcontractor has resulted in delayed payoff.
Impact on real estate
With the delaying of payments, the metro work will go for a toss. Delaying of the metro work is likely to increase the project cost significantly and will add to the overall government expenditure.
Delaying of the metro work will impact the property rates to a great extent. The Namma metro, which is one of the significant infrastrural feats of the city, has a progressive impact on the Bangalore micro markets. With the delaying of the metro work, the infrastructure development of the city will take a toll.
Completion of the metro project would change the landscape of the city and will trigger the growth of the suburban localities in Bangalore. However, with the ongoing issue of delayed payments change of Bangalore landscape may seem to be a flight of fancy.
