Namma Metro Project Deadline Extended Till 2025 Due To Delay
Bangalore Metro Rail Status
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is still far from implementing a war room model to expedite the Namma Metro project even after 2 years. As per the plan, the Bengaluru Metro is likely to have a ‘war room’ with officials from various government departments to trigger the metro project.
BMRCL proposed to assure the timeliness of the project so that it is not delayed. This includes the 72 km long Namma Metro Phase 2 work which was approved in 2014 to be completed by 2017.
The Karnataka government wanted to repeat the metro work to fast-track the Maharashtra model to avoid obstacles and other obstructions so that ongoing projects are not delayed due to political reasons.
According to a senior Urban Development Department official, BMRCL has not yet received approval to remove any trees after June 2020. “BMRCL has no approval to plant and maintain 9,000 saplings in the last one year”.
Bengaluru Metro is yet to settle land acquisition issues with the promoters of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) in Electronic City.
The applications of Namma Metro with the Forest Department for the removal of trees are long overdue at places such as UM Kaval Depot, Beniganhalli Lake Dam, Kadugodi, and Whitefield Station, Kadugodi, and Kothnur Depot.
The cost of the Namma Metro project has also increased from Rs 27,000 crore to Rs 30,695 crore due to the delayed construction.
