Owners of high-rises in Gurgaon to submit report on safety measures
The authorities of Gurgaon seem to have become more concerned about the safety of buildings in the district as they have shifted focus towards disaster preparedness.
The owners of high-rise structures and hazardous industries in the Millennium City have been asked to submit a compliance report ensuring that proper safety measures have been implemented in the structures. They have to submit the reports to the district authority within two months.
Mandatory directions for all highrises
A review meeting was held on November 27 to discuss about various measures to be taken for preparedness of disaster management in Gurgaon, in which Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi had presided over the event. He said that the owners of highrise buildings in the city should submit compliance report on safety measures, to be adopted as per the state government’s guidelines issued from time to time on their premises, within two months to District Revenue Officer Tarsem Sharma. It has also been announced that the owners who fail to submit the report will be penalised.
List of highrises to be ready
The deputy commissioner has sought the officials of the civic authorities including Municipal Corporation Gurgaon (MCG), Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and District Town Planner (DTP) to prepare a list of all high-rise structures in the district.
Blueprints marking locations
Once the list is ready, the DTP will prepare a blueprint which would show the exact locations of all the highrise buildings on the map. In the same way, a blueprint will be prepared by the Haryana State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), showing the locations of hazardous industries.
The map would also include the major and alternative routes leading to these highrise buildings, so that, in case of any accidents or mishaps, these routes can be used to reach the affected area or to evacuate the premises.
Other plans proposed
A survey has been proposed to be conducted by the concerned authorities to find out the high-rises and hazardous industries. Also, the officials would form a team and conduct socio-auditing of the buildings to check whether the safety measures are in place or not. The team constituted by the Deputy Commissioner would include representatives from various departments including HUDA, PWD, Deputy Commissioner’s office, DTP and Fire departments. The team would inspect at least two buildings or premises by random every month and submit its report in the monthly review meeting.
