PCMC yet to collect property tax from 45000 properties
With more than 45000 unassessed properties in Pune, the PCMC (Pune-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) is required to rope in brass bands to recover the pending property tax from the defaulters. Through the drive, the PCMC can review the unassessed properties and contribute to revenue collection significantly.
The target
Collection of Rs 350 crore by 31st march 2014, is the goal set by the civic body, out of which Rs 247 crore has already been rolled up by the PCMC last year. The PCMC’s has been strictly instructed to complete the remaining assessment in the next 45 days before the fiscal year comes to an end.
The civic body is running short of Rs 300-Rs 325 crore in the present financial year.Hence, the PCMC is left with no option other than increasing its revenue target from building permission departments and property tax by Rs 50 crore and Rs 100 crore respectively. As per experts, the revenue for the civic body is likely to increase by Rs 50-Rs 55 crore every year, after the assessment comes to an end.
Tax collection
As per market reports, approximately 45755 new properties in Pune are yet to be assessed. After the assessing, a whopping Rs 50- Rs 55 crore will be generated for the PCMC. This will offer a huge helping hand to the cash-starved civic body. According to PCMC’s officials, nearly 380312 properties have been reviewed so far, and the leftover properties are subjected to assessment in the next 45 days.
For all those unauthorized properties which were built after January 2008, the PCMC is charging double the property tax. Thus, it is imperative for the property owners to provide with the property related documents, which can authenticate the date of construction. On the basis of the construction date from a valid source, the PCMC will decide whether double property tax should be levied or not.
