The following precautions should be taken while purchasing granite stone.
- When buying granite tiles, one should look for an even distribution of mica, feldspar and quartz, as well as a uniform and even polishing.
- One should also look for uniformity in veining (where veining exists) and a consistency in background color.
- Check artificial coloring as it is a huge problem with stones now a days especially the black granite.
- One should make sure that granite tiles are free of iron deposits, which may cause rusting.
- The granite slab should be water cut having no circular mark on the back of the slab.
- Choose only with best polish, once the granite loses its charm there is no way you can polish it.
- In light colored granites there are chances of yellow patches, so be careful.
- While transporting granite, professional packing should be used so that pieces are stacked with polished face to polished face to prevent scratching.
- The shipping pallet must be of good quality, and the granite flooring must be securely strapped to the pallet in a perpendicular fashion.
- Check stone pieces thoroughly because it is generally observed that the shopkeeper place superior pieces on the top of stack and inferior pieces below. Ensure that the loading is done in your presence and superior pieces are loaded by the labor.
