Quality of life in Hyderabad
Living in the city of Pearls!
Hyderabad is one of the rapidly expanding metro cities in India. It is located in the central region of the country in the Deccan Plateau and has a culture that is influenced by both Hyderabadis and South Indians. It is booming in the fields of science, education, and technology! Hence, it attracts people from many parts of India and is a cosmopolitan city.
Living in Hyderabad
When compared to other cities in India like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, or Bangalore, Hyderabad is still an affordable choice. The cost of living is not as high as the other cities yet. You can find accommodation easily in most parts of the city. Places located centrally and in the Hi-tech city tend to be a little expensive.
Transport
Most places are well connected and you can find public transport easily. There are public buses with bus stops located prominently. You can also find shared autos in common routes. The Metro Rail is spread across the city and connects most places. It is one of the fastest ways to travel.
Places you must see in Hyderabad
- Charminar – This iconic monument was built by Quli Qutb Shah after the great plague that affected Hyderabad. Around Charminar, you will find the famous Laad Bazaar where people sell lac bangles, a must-have for wedding gifts! Also, visit Cafe Nimrah for Irani chai and traditional Hyderabadi biscuits.
- Mecca Masjid- It is located right across the Charminar. This was also built by Quli Qutb Shah, with mud that was brought in from Mecca. It is a religious place and women must wear scarves before entering. You can sit in the prayer hall and admire the lovely architecture in a serene surrounding.
- Golkonda Fort – Spread across a vast area, this fort was built by the Qutb Shahi dynasty and served as a foundation for the ruling kingdoms of the Deccan region. The famous Kohinoor diamond was also found here. You can stroll around this place and enjoy a lovely walk from the bottom to the top. There is a “light and sound” show organized in the evening, in the voice of none other than Mr. Amitabh Bachchan!
- Chowmahalla Palace – It is located very close to the Charminar. You must visit this place to get a view of the magnificent royalty that was enjoyed by the Nizams of Hyderabad. It has two courtyards and a pristine pool in the middle.
Hyderabadi cuisine
- Hyderabadi Biryani – Meat, rice, and spices cooked in a sealed cauldron, resulting in a dish that is just the perfect blend of flavors!
- Haleem – This dish is usually available during Ramzan, but some places like Pista House and Sarvi serve it all year round. It is made using mainly meat, pulses, ghee, and fried onions. Just one spoon of it melts in your mouth!
- Sweetmeats famous in this region are shahi tukda, kubani ka meetha, sheer khurma, payasam or kheer, and badam ki jali. Badam ki jali is sold only by the Imperial House and they have a secret family recipe.
Other food items include sheer khurma, Osmania biscuits, nihari, paya, and talawa gosht.
Since Hyderabad is mainly located in South India, various Southern delicacies include a variety of dosas, steaming idlis, vada, lemon rice, bondas, mirchi bajjis, and bondas.
If you do not wish to cook, you can find a mess and curry points nearby. Some of these places also deliver to your doorstep.
Nightlife
This city really knows how to party! You can go bar hopping around Jubilee Hills to find some of the best places to dance, drink and chill. Most of the clubs are reasonably priced. You can visit these places with your friends or co-workers also. Many clubs have events happening during different days of the week. Expect Bollywood Night, Ladies Night, live music, and stand-up comedy.
The city welcomes everyone who wishes to visit this place. It is a perfect amalgamation of old-world charm and culture reminiscent of the royal Nizami dynasty and the fast-paced life of every aspiring professional. People here understand Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, and English. So, communicating is very easy and you will lead a great life here. In the Old City, you can find yourself lost in lore and reveling in the beauty of the past, whereas in the same city there are the Gachibowli housing skyscrapers for software professionals. If you ask me, I would rather go to Lumbini Park, in the heart of the city, and admire the Buddha Statue in the Hussain Sagar Lake, set against the backdrop of a picturesque sunset.
